1936
Birth of Pollux
The POLLUX COMPANY was founded in November 1936, by four partners, starting its activity at Rua da Palma, nº 132 in Lisbon. Its activity was, initially, the commerce of knitwear, fabrics and trinkets.
A few years after its foundation, it moved its establishment to the address it still occupies today at Rua dos Fanqueiros, no. 276, in Lisbon, being installed only on the ground floor of the building. At that time, its main activity was mostly selling to the public, expanding however its activity to supply clients in Africa, exporting several articles to those destinations.
With the company's development and expansion strategy, the remaining floors of the building at Rua dos Fanqueiros were successively occupied as they became available, keeping the total occupation of the building until today.
Throughout the years, POLLUX has specialized and directed its activity towards household articles, especially and mainly after 1975, when exports to Africa decreased. There was a need to adapt and follow the trends and the evolution of the markets.
1988
In 1988 the SOCIEDADE POLLUX, Lda. was sold to the current owners - António Robalo Family - who kept the company's main activity in the public sale and commercialization of household goods, developing however the several sections that already existed as well as introducing the resale to professionals in the hotel business.
Since 1988 that POLLUX has a Hospitality section, a space reserved only for professionals of the Horeca channel.
1993
In 1993, the entire building at Rua dos Fanqueiros was remodeled, for the evolution of the times and the development of the company demanded it.
1996
In 1996, taking advantage of a capital increase, POLLUX changed from a limited company to an anonymous society and changed its designation to SOCIEDADE POLLUX, SA.
1999
In 1999 the geographical expansion of POLLUX begins, with the opening in June of that year of its Porto branch located at Rua Santa Catarina nº 300 and the simultaneous acquisition of the firm Dipol, Lda. already owned by the family since 1970, with the consequent integration of its two establishments: one in Amadora at Rua Elias Garcia t, nº 364 born in 1972 and the other in Rua Porto at Santa Catarina, nº 9.
2005
In December 2005 the number of commercial spaces was increased with the opening of a store in Aveiro (industrial area) in Estrada de Cacia , this store with about 1,200 m².
2007
In November 2007 opened to the public in Vila Franca de Xira, a modern and attractive commercial space with about 5,000 m2 of area, spread over 3 floors, where today also has a prominent place an outlet space.
2008
In October 2008, with the opening of a new store in the heart of the city of Almada, located at Avenida D. Afonso Henriques nº8-F, the strategy of expansion and development of the group continues.
2009
In June 2009, another store was opened, the first one located in a Shopping Center, more specifically in Spacio Shopping, in Lisbon at Olivais.
2015
In 2015 Pollux joins the new trends of e-commerce, launching in August 2015 a new store with more than 4000 articles for home and decoration that are now just a click away. Thus, is born one more store in the Pollux universe: the Pollux Online Shop!
